Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey is urging James Bond bosses to consider him for a role in the next installment of the franchise because he has always dreamt of playing a villain opposite the super spy.

The 'American Beauty' star, who played legendary comic book villain Lex Luthor in 2006 'Superman Returns', has set his sights on a role opposite British actor Daniel Craig in the follow-up to last year hit 'Quantum of Solace', reports variety.com.

Spacey insists playing an arch enemy of the suave secret agent is high on his list of his priorities.

'I would love to play the villain in Bond, but they haven't called yet,' he said.

An extensive investigation into James Bond's love life suggests that he prefers brunettes to blondes. Researchers behind the study say that apart from having long dark hair, an ideal Bond girl is likely to have an American accent and carry a weapon. They came to this conclusion after assessing the physical traits of all 195 female characters in the first 20 Bond movies, and then differentiating the characteristics of the 98 who had "sexual contact" with Bond with those of the 97 who did not.

Former Italian model, and now the high-profile French First Lady, Carla Bruni has beat Queen Elizabeth of England, to top the Celebrity Hat Wearers list among the females. In the male category, actor Hugh Jackman of Australia has been voted ahead of former James Bond star Sean Connery to top the Celebrity Hat Wearers list among the men.
